It is impossible to fathom the depth of God's love for us. But this verse from the Bible gives us a little peek into what His love looks like towards us.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16
This just means that we aren't perfect. Every human is a sinner. We all do things wrong and make mistakes. (i.e. lying, unkindness, laziness, naughty thoughts...)This sin is what keeps us from Heaven. Our sin makes us deserve to go to Hell instead.
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Romans 3:23
The Bible says because we have broken God's law we must pay the penalty for sin.God's justice demands that sin be paid for. Without salvation we are on our way to hell.
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
Revelation 20:15
Jesus is God's son, mentioned in the verse above (John 3:16). There is nothing we can DO to take away our sin since we aren't perfect. Everything we do will be tainted by our sin.
Jesus loved everyone so much that He was willing to die on a cross about 2,000 years ago to be the ultimate payment for our sin. He took our punishment upon himself.
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."
Romans 5:8-9
4) Jesus paid for your admission into Heaven.
Will you accept this free ticket?
Jesus rose from the grave three days after He was buried, conquering death and Hell. Nobody has to go to Hell!
We can't work our way to Heaven. Jesus already did what was needed by dying on the cross and rising again from the dead.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
1 John 5:13

Sample Prayer
"Dear God,I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve to go to Hell. I believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave. Please, Jesus, save my soul, forgive all my sins, and take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you for saving me. Amen!"
These specific words won't save you. But, if you believe what you are saying 100% then you will go to Heaven when you die.
